Hummingbird Migration

Some fun facts about Hummingbirds and Orioles.

Hummingbirds can be affectionately referred to as hummers and did you know hummingbirds choose their favorite spots through a combination of geography and nectar sources?  A well placed feeder can make a huge difference in attracting hummers. Did you know Orioles are attracted to the color orange? We have Oriole feeders that accommodate nectar, orange halves, and jelly.

Hummingbirds and Orioles are migrating north.

The common hummingbird here in Ohio that will be arriving is the Ruby-throated hummingbird. On a rare occasion you might see a Rufous hummingbird, Anna’s hummingbird, Calliope hummingbird, Black-chinned hummingbird, Allen’s hummingbird, Mexican violetear, and the Broad-tailed hummingbird.

We have assembled some resources for you to discover more information about hummingbirds and thier migration.

Hummingbird Central created an interactive map of hummingbird sightings as they travel north.
